The Sumba Man

These simple stone statues originate from the Indonesian island of Sumba and are hand carved from sandstone by local craftsmen. In the traditional villages of Sumba, statues like these are placed in and around the entrance of the hut and offer protection and healing to the inhabitants within. They make a beautiful statement on their own or are beautifully grouped to really make an impression. Hand carved. Each statue is unique. No two statues are exactly the same.
